How the Architecture Was Identified

Why Spiral Architecture. San stories spiral around a center — the relationship between this world and the spirit world, between the living and the dead, between the human community and the land. Each story circles this center from a different angle, adding depth rather than progressing to resolution. The trance dance itself is a spiral — the healer spirals deeper and deeper into n|om potency, and then spirals back to ordinary consciousness, returning with what was gathered.

Structural Logic. Stories accumulate meaning by returning to the same center with new perspectives, new information, new depth. Resolution is not closure but deeper relationship with the living world. The story ends when the spiral has gone as deep as needed — not when conflict is resolved.

Structural Movement. Establishment of the living world → disruption or need → descent into the spirit world (through trickster wisdom, trance, or trial) → encounter with the sacred → return with what was needed → reintegration into community → the center is now richer
